Dog Treats Recalled

My usual post involves Pit Bulls, but this is a very serious matter.  If for whatever reason, you’ve got a bag of Jr. Texas Taffy Pet Treats, do not given them to your dog, Pit Bull, or not.  Merrick Pet Care, Inc. of Amarillo, Texas is recalling the Jr. Texas Taffy pet treat (ITEM # 27077, UPC # 02280827077) because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. They decided to recall the products, due to caution.  Chances are, there is Salmonella in them, or they wouldn’t be so cautious.  They’re only saying “it’s just caution”, to show their company cares, trying to cover up their mistake.  Humans can get infected, just by contact, so if you have handled any of these treats, get your dog checked, and you should get checked as well.

Healthy people should look out for these symptoms:

  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea or bloody diarrhea
  • abdominal cramping
  • fever

RARE symptoms/side effects of Salmonella:

  • arterial infections
  • endocarditis
  • arthritis
  • muscle pain
  • eye irritation
  • urinary tract symptoms

Watch out for these symptoms in your dogs:

  • lethargic (extra laziness)
  • diarrhea or bloody diarrhea
  • fever
  • vomiting

Infected, but healthy seeming dogs can be carriers, and infect other animals or humans.  If you or your dog, not just Pit Bulls is showing signs of infection, you should see a medical professional immediately, or a veterinarian immediately.
