I’ve taken the liberty to take quotes from different insurance companies. These are by no means exact amounts, but they offer a little more information then you know now, and can steer you in the right direction. I’ve only taken screenshots from Pet Insurance companies, not home insurance companies.
I would also like to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of some of these insurance companies. They are all very legit and very prominent insurance companies, but there are strengths and weaknesses as there are with everything. Best Pet Insurance covers up to 80% on all of their plans topping out around $81.00 for their best plan, while covering 80% of everything with $100,000 life coverage. 24 PetWatch Insurance covers 90% of everything yet only costs about $71.90 per month, but only offers $72,000 lifetime coverage. VPI Pet Insurance costs around $58.87, but wont tell you the lifetime coverage (there may be no limit), but the yearly coverage is $14,000.
In the end you’re going to have to decide for yourself which coverage is right for you. When I did this experiment, I chose an American Staffordshire Terrier, 3 years old, Male, Not neutered, and no microchip, and those are the results I came up with. If your dog is different, then you may get different quotes, or if you live in a different state then me, quotes may change, but those quotes are as of Maryland.
Other extra coverage you should look out for:
- Accidents
- Lab Tests
- Surgeries
- Prescriptions
- Hospitalization
- Vaccination
- Heart worm
- Flea Control
- urinalysis
- Dental or Spay/Neuter
These are all coverage items that you should look out for. If all of these are in a plan, where at least most of the payments are covered, you’ve found yourself a good plan. I’d recommend you still do some searching as prices shouldn’t be the only thing you base your choice on. Pit Bull Insurance is something every owner should have, regardless if the dog is dangerous or not.
